On one side we had many companies still struggling to figure out how, where and when to use Big Data analytics. On the other side, we had companies, which effectively use analytics to create a competitive advantage for their business. The good news is that today we have several examples before us on how organizations are leveraging Big Data technologies for competitive advantage. For several companies, Big Data is moving from the theoretical to the practical. Those organizations that have already got going with Big Data, either on a production or a trial basis, are now moving from analyzing historical data to real-time analytics. CIOs across the board have moved on from the initial excitement phase. If much of the talk last year was on how Big Data can help, today we hear less of such talk now and more about practical applications to real business cases. We are moving away from the hype into the practicality of certain initiatives. It's a sign of its growing maturity. This means that businesses will be more willing to fund initiatives. To help CIOs take advantage of the Big Data revolution, in this issue we present to you `100 Most Promising Big Data Companies'. CEOs of these vendor companies have been sharing with us stories of how they have been helping companies reimagine their business--giving us a sense of the Big Data revolution. These 100 vendors offer technology solutions and platforms solving new problems that weren't well addressed by the old tools. In a way, you might think of all of these vendors as disruptors.
