CIOReview | | 19 SEPTEMBER 2024Gaming data is massive, especially slot machine data. The basics of slot machine data are how much coin-in per unit day (CPUD) it produces and win per unit day (WPUD). CPUD means how much is wagered in a day on a specific slot machine, while WPUD means how much a slot machine wins for the casino each day. Each casino has its own metrics and slot machine performance. Gaming operators constantly look for ways to increase those metrics, making more money for the casino. Other metrics regularly looked at are how often a slot machine goes into an error, such as a bill jam or some different tilt, and utilization. Each day, slot machines are expected to make a certain amount of money. Suppose a slot machine fails to perform over a certain period. In that case, operators work with the game manufacturer to determine if theme conversions are available or have reached their life expectancy, which means they can be replaced with a new cabinet. The representative from each manufacturer suggests themes based on the data other casinos share if the slot machine is converted to a new theme. We may purchase more machines with the same theme if it succeeds.Table game data is also critical to the success of this department. Not only do we use similar metrics as we do with slot machine analytics, but there is also human analytics. One example is analyzing the hands a dealer can fulfill for an hour in blackjack. For example, an average blackjack dealer may deal 80-100 hands per hour. We will use that as a benchmark and help those dealers who don't handle that many hands achieve that. Another aspect is that if a blackjack dealer is dealing too fast, that can create a bad experience for our guests. We also evaluate how many decisions a dealer makes per hour. This metric varies based on the cards dealt, split, and double downs. Side bets in table games are necessary as they continue to drive incremental drop. When we look at decisions per hour, we also consider the other decisions used for side bets. Compiling side bet information may take an extensive amount of time since some of them still require a manual process. We are evolving to artificial intelligence.
