| | October 20186CIOReviewThe premise of employing an agile workflow has time and again proven to be a philosophy within an organization rather than a technique that would otherwise overhaul application or product development. Agile enables industry leaders to consistently obtain the feedback of their user demographics, right from the initial stages of product development throughout the final phase or product deliver. As a result, end-users get their hands on alpha and beta builds of a product, thereby perpetually assisting the developers in crafting a product that upholds the vision of creators while also fulfilling the requirements of consumers.Consider large Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as Google for its Android operating system and OnePlus for its Oxygen OS operating system. Both of these OEMs rollout their pre-release builds of operating systems such that bugs are reported directly by the end-user at an early stage, contrasting the traditional method of rolling out a software update that is fresh off the boat. Such Beta Programs are termed as Soak tests that bestow the power of debugging to the end-user. The approach empowers OEMs to learn about the bugs and errors noticeable on `daily-driver ready' builds of operating systems. The merits and advantages of this methodology has transcended into a plethora of industries, where decision makers mimic the technique of developing a product in successive stages to avoid discrepancies that arise in the daily usage of the product. The technique nurtures subsequent practices such as DevOps, where teams within an organizations can collaboratively work together to develop a product, rather than forming consortiums for standalone stages of product development. Therefore, practicing agile has become a norm that is followed across industries, sinking deeper into the development and testing workflows. With the current edition of CIO Review, the editorial board aspires to showcase the proficiencies of prominent agile practitioners in the current day and age, in order to assist industry peers in leveraging state-of-the-art solutions and services. Please share your thoughts with us.Jeevan George Managing Editoreditor@cioreview.comSoak Testing the Effectiveness of Product DevelopmentCopyright © 2018 ValleyMedia, Inc.
