| | June 20176CIOReviewThe stage has been set. 2017 will be the milestone year for cloud adoption as the growth is believed to stabilize after reaching a peak of $246.8 billion this year. Organizations in the U.S. alone are expected to allocate $1.77 million on an average to make the transition to the cloud or update their existing strategies. For the most part, it will be Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) that makes a relatively larger contribution to the growth of the public cloud, closely followed by hosted applications (SaaS).The promise of increased agility and lowered TCO will prompt more and more enterprises to pronounce the end game for in-house infrastructures, luring them into the cloud enclave. What was once too unthinkable--the idea of ditching data centers--due to security concerns is now fogging up, as several communities have sprung up to regulate the space. Thanks in large to the Cloud Security Alliance, ISO, CDSA, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOX, who are actively pushing the envelope to amend new and more robust policies to ensure cloud security.Initially propounded with SMBs in mind, today even larger MNCs are taking the giant leap to the cloud. Fanning the cloud flame is other technologies like data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, all of which require infinitely scalable and agile data storage and networking--something only the cloud can bestow.Meanwhile, the new class of virtualized computing and the more sophisticated containerized application delivery may have just begun to tap the surface. But in the coming years, the ease-of-use and quicker time-to-market factors of these technologies alone may urge more organizations, especially larger enterprises, to adopt cloud paradigms. Even the more hesitant entrants like the banking and finance companies are rapidly putting their two cents down on cloud computing. To give more numbers, the global cloud IP traffic will almost quadruple in the next five years. With that, many pioneers in the cloud arena, some of whom have been instrumental in taking the cloud to the shape as we know today are spinning off products and solutions that can remove the obscurity surrounding the technology. CIOReview has come up with its annual special edition on cloud, featuring some of those innovative solution providers.Let us know your thoughts.Copyright © 2017 ValleyMedia, Inc. All rights reserved.
