8CIOReview | | JULY 2023By Humberto Barreda, Cybersecurity Manager for Cloud & SAP, Sempra InfraestructuraELEVATING CLOUDSERVICESHumberto barredaIN MY OPINIONAs the cybersecurity manager for Cloud & SAP Mexico of Sempra Infraestructura, what in your opinion are the major trends that can play a key role in elevating the standards of cloud services?From my perspective, I would highlight the following three.Every organization should have an identity and access management (IAM) strategy based on the user identity, access privileges, and authentication related to services in the cloud, including applications. This would allow having a secure cloud, and then ensure that cloud services permissions are granted accordingly to the actual user needs. In terms of incident response or potential cyberattacks, implementing automation and orchestration will elevate the standard of cloud services. Of course, having security, orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) would demand having in place analytics running, events logging from the IT environment, designing and validating use cases applicable to the technological landscape, and therefore any suspicious event could be contained since the first line of defense without human interaction.The adoption of Zero Trust is becoming widely popular as it would only allow access to authenticated users with known identities to specific resources. This reflects that having IAM as the cornerstone of a security strategy with the proper technical controls in place can improve overall cloud protection.
