Almost every firm in the US has a considerable stockpile of end-of-life IT assets that are loaded with sensitive data and are quickly depreciating. IT service providers charge about $10 to wipe and certify each hard drive. That means a company with 1,000 drives needs to shell out $10,000 for this necessary service. Then, they will either recycle the drives or just shred them to destroy the files. This is not a very environmentally-friendly way to destroy data.Guard Well has changed the game with its enterprise risk mitigation solution. The solution follows a simple process. Guard Well acquires an inventory list from the client and presents it to its partners for bidding to achieve the highest and best returns for the client. Once bidding is complete, usually within 24 hours, shipping labels and supplies are sent to the client to prepare the gear for delivery, at no cost. In few instances, technicians will visit onsite and prepare the gear from shipping; it's considered on a case-by-case scenario. Once pick up is scheduled, the gear is on its way to a new life. No more headache of IT or expense. "It's an awesome solution," Hilsinger exclaims. Additionally, there is no more worry about the sensitive data. "Companies trust our process because we partner only with organizations that use data eradication software endorsed by the Department of Defense (DoD) and which are HIPAA and FDIC compliant. Our partners issue certificates confirming total data eradication for each drive wiped. Our process has emerged as the gold standard in the industry," says Hilsinger. "And we provide this solution across the US and internationally as well." Once the drives are clean and the gear is fully operational, it is `repurposed' and sold via a network of worldwide partners. This process, in its own regard, is a true benefit as well because it is the most environmentally-friendly way to handle end-of-life IT assets. It is important to remember that IT gear depreciates quickly, therefore, the sooner the Guard Well team is able to access the gear, the better the profit share income will be for the client. In a case study, a Florida-based school district had 500 pieces of IT gear stored. By partnering with Guard Well, the district quickly got rid of the end-of-life gear and received a profit share of $2,500. Additionally, 500 hard drives were wiped clean, free of charge, saving the district $5,000, which in turn gave the district a $7,500 positive swing. Guard Well handled the transportation of those assets and completed the process swiftly. In another instance, Guard Well took possession of the end-of-life IT gear by visiting the various locations of a logistics company, wiped the drives, certified data eradication and profit shared back almost $5,000. Add to that $2,000 saved in wiping the drives, taking the overall gain to $7,000. Having achieved a resounding success in the months prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, Guard Well looks poised to create many more success stories in the area of enterprise risk mitigation.
