No longer is it just a vision for the future, IoT is happening here and now. But as is often the case with technological advancements on the cusp of becoming mainstream, it's hard for us right now to imagine day to day practicalities. Much of the early hype has been about cool new sensors, high-tech wearables, and new wireless technologies. However, in 2015, we will hear less about the billions of devices expected to be connected to the Internet. Businesses will start to take advantage of IOT and we will hear more about actual IoT applications and how customers are using it.There's been a lot of talk about the IoT's potential in the business world--to improve performance, reduce costs, drive innovation and create new revenue streams. Of course, we've now reached the point where the talk is turning into action--technology is adapting and businesses are planning IoT strategies. CIOs have begun to set up IoT groups within their enterprises. We are at the tipping point for broader IOT adoption. Businesses recognize the importance of IoT deployments and many organizations are planning to implement an IoT solution in the next 24 months. Many of them are already in the process of deployment. IOT deployment in the enterprise has increased 333 percent since 2012, according to a latest research. But what does that really mean? As companies implement IoT solutions, CIOs will find that IoT becomes another force driving the digital transformation of their company. CIOs have a central role to play in helping their line-of-business counterparts understand how to incorporate the IoT into their business technology agenda. The growing scope and importance of the data from IoT will force CIOs to integrate the Internet of Things into their business technology agenda, with full capabilities for data management, analytics, security, and enterprise application integration.
