| | February 20144CIOReviewEditorialIt has often been observed that any industry, after reaching a tipping point, witnesses consolidation. 2013 was a banner year for enterprise mobility and 2014 is going to be even more massive with several exciting acquisitions and growth. Mobile application platforms continue to be acquired. For instance, SAP started this trend with the acquisition of Sybase and its Unwired Platform in 2010, Motorola acquired RhoMobile in 2011, IBM acquired Worklight in 2012, SAP bought another mobile app platform Syclo later in 2012, and Pivotal (a spin-off of corporate giants EMC, VMWare and General Electric) continued this trend in 2013 with the acquisition of Xtreme Labs and the trend is going to continue in the near future. The likelihood of more consolidations was evident when Kontagent and PlayHaven agreed to merge with the goal of creating a market leading solution for helping mobile businesses manage their apps. This is a very good sign, especially at a time when the industry itself, mainly 72 percent of IT managers plan to spend 20 percent of their budgets on mobility. Today while CIOs are increasingly putting their faith in innovative mobility solutions to catapult their business growth making enterprise mobility companies a hot favorite in the market, there is still a challenge for these CIOs to find the right mobility solution providers and right enterprise mobility consulting companies to help them integrate mobility as part of their DNA.
